Recently, I received an email from someone asking me what the meaning of life is. Or what I thought it is. It took me a while to think about what I truly believe is the meaning of life. Then I realised it is something I have thought all along…
Life is meaningless.
The truth is, non of us are making it out alive, so why do we take it so seriously? Why do we hold back from the risks we are desperate to take?
Why do we spend so long climbing ladders when fundamentally, there is nothing at the top. Why are we not living everyday as though it is our last, because the reality is, it may well be.
We spend so long holding ourselves back, in order to have a better future. We are constantly working on a time scale. By the age of thirty I want to be married, with a baby, a mortgaged house, and a great career. But is that what you want or is that what we are told we should be aiming towards.
Life is meaningless… There is no meaning to life. And our time here is very short.
So go out and do the things you have always wanted.
Ask the person you have admired for such a long time on a date, because the worst they can say is NO.
Go back to school and study something, not for a career but because you find it interesting.
Move to a new city, and new country and try and figure it out. The worst that can happen is you realise it’s not for you and you return home. But at least you won’t spend your whole life wondering.
Have sex with a stranger if you find them attractive. Whose business is it to tell you what you can and can’t do with your body? (Just please use protection.)
Have a pizza if you want a pizza, and an ice cream for dessert, as and when you want it. You don’t need a new body for every season.
Spend money on adventures and experiences rather than materialistic possessions. People would rather listen to the stories you have to tell, then the things you have to show.
Life is meaningless.
There is no wrong or right to the way you choose to live your life. If it is not harming yourself or anyone else then just have an amazing time.
Go to festivals. Dance until the early hours of the morning. Free yourself from the judgement of others.
This life is yours and yours only. Every person you meet, every path you take, was meant to happen for a reason.
Celebrate just how meaningless this life is. Take risks. Do things that scare you. Start LIVING.
When you stop trying you mould your life into something perfect. When we start to live the way we want to live. We are allowing ourselves to be open. Open to the joys of life.
Life is meaningless, but worth living, provided you recognise the beauty in its meaningless.
